This is an interesting article but I have a question about this statement in it.

Another extremely popular model was rolled out in 1873.  The Model 1873 introduced the first Winchester center fire cartridge, the .44-40 WCF (Winchester Center Fire).  These rifle families are commonly known as the “Gun That Won the West.”  The Colts Patent Firearms Company introduced their first cartridge firearm the same year.  This gun, the Model 1873 “Single Action Army” revolver was also initially chambered for the .44 caliber rimfire cartridge as well as the .44-40 WCF which provided interchangeability between Winchester’s long arm and Colts side arm.

Didn't Colt produce in 1872 a cartridge revolver generally referred to as the Open Top?  And I don't think the Colt SAA was chambered in rim fire.  Its initial chambering was the .45 Colt.
