Here are some pictures of my Ruger Blackhawk 10 mm/.38-40 convertible.  It was part of a special run by Ruger for Buckeye Sports Supply in Ohio.  I believe it was in the late eighties or early ninties.

I bought it mainly because of the .38-40 caliber.  That is the same cartridge that my 1873 Winchester shoots.  That and the fact that I just like Ruger's.  I have eight of them.

Charles....

This is a very nice pistol.  I too like the Ruger Brand.  I have one M77 in .270 Win., two MK II, one MK I, one Super Single Six from 1969 and one .45 LC Vaquero in Stainless.  A note on the 38-40, John Wayne's lever action he carried in most of his movies was a Winchester 1892 in 38-40.  I visited this rifle and several of his pistols when they were on display at the Western Heritage Hall of Fame (Cowboy Hall of Fame) here in Oklahoma City.  Wayne also has several other Winchester 1892 in various calibers.  I don't know if they are still there or not.

You remind me of an evangelist we had at out church several years ago.  He was a John Wayne impersonator.  He looked and sounded like John Wayne.  Or as he put it, John Wayne looked like him.  He carried a '92 Winchester with a large loop lever and a Ruger Blackhawk or Vaquero (I don't remember which).  He would do one thing he said Wayne never did, he would draw and twirl the Winchester at the same time.  He said he nearly beat himself to death learning to do it.

To show his fast draw, he had two balloons set up.  He gave a pistol to a church member and had him point it cocked at one of the balloons.  He had someone count to three.  He told the other person with the pistol to pull the trigger on three.  He would draw and shoot on three.  (The pistols were loaded with blanks.)  Both balloons burst at the same time.

He gave a good salvation message.  He said doing it that way enabled him to get into places he otherwise wouldn't have been able to.

Charles...

Thanks for the short story.  As a writer I love hearing about these things.
