People have asked me why I carry a gun.  This article expresses my feelings on the matter well as any I have read.  What are your thoughts on the subject?

As a law enforcement officer of over forty years....wow when that is in print...that is a long time......I have always believed this about citizens carrying guns.  It is very likely I will not be there when my citizens will need me the most.  I can not be everywhere at one time.  If you can...pack your protection.

Sure for a city of 10,000 citizens, if I was budgeted for 3,000 police officers who could search every car, home and business at will without warrant or permission, I could guarantee your safety.  We would build a wall around the city which is four feet thick and twenty five feet tall.  The two entrances....the only entrances to the city....would be manned 24/7...365..with every car, delivery truck, person being searched prior to being allowed to enter my city.  I would have squads of officers who each would be responsible for five homes and their families.  This squad could walk into you home when every they feel like it.  A little tip here....no homemade donuts.  Yes I can just about stop crime and guarantee your safety to the point you don't need a firearm.  But we all know we can't afford to hire this many officers for each city and we don't want to give up our freedom.  So my answer is..and has always been....if you can legally...pack your protection as I can't protect you.  I can just investigate the scene and attempt to find the dirtbag who killed you.  It is much better for me to investigate the scene where the dirtbag was killed by you.

Some very good points in the article and from Clint.  You all know, I dont carry a gun but I know for a fact what it cost my family and friends that fought for your right to carry one.  I stand with them, you do not have the right to use a firearm for harm.  Regardless of why, you have every right to carry one!

I carry to exercise my 2nd amendment right (many countries have laws that make handguns illegal), as well as to protect myself in the event some criminal forces me to use deadly force to defend my life.

I believe in protecting ones self. If a dirtbag tries to hurt my family or enters my house with bad intent, this peace loving man will deal with them. I keep two loaded pistols in my house and if someone enters with bad intent, all bets are off. If someone is going to get hurt it's going to be them. Every time.
