Great pictures Charles.  38/40 was the caliber of John Waynes 1882 Winchester.  His rifles and pistols were at the Western Heritage Museum (formerly Cowboy Hall of Fame) in Oklahoma City.  I don't know if they are now.

Did you make a typo?  Wasn't it an 1892 Winchester?

We once had an evangelist come to our church who was a John Wayne impersonator.  He looked and sounded just like Wayne.  (He said John Wayne looked like him!).  He dressed just like Wayne down to the rifle and pistol.  He even went one better than Wayne.  John Wayne could twirl his rifle.  This fellow could twirl the rifle and at the same time draw his pistol.  He said he nearly beat himself to death learning to do it.

Another thing he did was quite amazing.  He had two infated balloons on stands.  He gave one pistol to a church member and told him to point it cocked at one of the balloons.  He stood facing the other balloon with his pistol holstered.  He told someone else to count to three.  He told the other fellow with the pistol to pull the trigger on three.  He would draw and fire on three.  (The pistols were loaded with blanks and he had a backboard set up.)  It seemed to me both balloons burst at the same time.  He said he won but even if it was a tie, to draw, cock, and fire while the other fellow only had to twitch his finger is a fast draw.  Of course reaction time would play into also but he was use to doing it so would have quicker reaction time.

The evangelist said doing it that way enabled him get into places and present the gospel where he otherwise wouldn't have been able.

Yes I was in a hurry.  Thanks for spotting this.

Charles that is great!  What an intriguing way to get into places you would not have normally gotten to

Beautiful!!!!!!
