Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

It seems to me a discussion on handmade and custom or customized outdoor knives would be a good place to post some pictures.  Doesn't matter if you forged it yourself, used a store bought blank or an old knife blade load it up here.  Or maybe you modified a handle or blade on a factory piece, Put it here.  If it has been modfied or made by hand or if you can't buy it from a factory. post it here.

I personally don't have many non-factory knives and the few knives I've made were made with sotore bough or old knife blades.  But I know just about everyone likes to see unique, one of kind non-factory knives.  So let's see 'em here!

My only 100% hand made in the USA is the Sasquatch Slasher.  I wrote all about it here.

And while I'm very proud of my effort, I'm guessing there are better handmade outdoor knives and tools out there. If you have one, I'm sure plenty of us would  love to see it!

Raining, nasty, just one of those, 'wanna do nothing' days. So was playing on the net. Saw this. Went into the garage, just grabbed a couple.  These are all 'one of a kind', and worth, thousands of dollars, (or not). LOL. ;-)

Top Left, Cutting the stalks of editable plants, or (thick weeds). Next two down, rough shaping of walking sticks. The three to the right, Letter Openers. Handles, made from broken Walnut gun stocks, blades, broken gun parts.

Bunch more, in the pole shed, garden cover. But everybody I am guessing has lots of this kind of stuff they have made for a specific purpose.  Especially the wood carvers.

Fantastic, Tom!  The only knife I made, so far, is a dagger I carved from a peg that came loose from an old timber-framed corn crib, when I was a kid.  You might remember the kind of corn crib - corn bins on both sides with empty space in the middle to park your tractor or farm truck.

Mostly I'll pick up a "box full of knives" from an auction if I need a "specialty" knife, which usually means a knife to be abused.

A-Yep, the go 'ol corn crib. Wore out a few scoop shovels. Then WOW, found one made from ALUMINUM  !!!!
Auctions are fun, BUT when I go to someone else's, Well, that's why the Pole Shed is, full.

( "I know I'm a gonna use that some day")

Hahahahaha.  Damn Tom, you ARE old - aluminum shovels were new to you.

Thoes are really fantastic, Tom.  I'm very impressed.     I wasn't even thinking of the homemade things you make to get a job done but when you think about it. that is really what knife making should be all about!  I commend you for your ingenuity and effort!

I'm sure there are more home made and customs knives out there.  Here is one of my kit knives  of sort.  I bought the blade but had to hollowed out the elk horn with a triangular file.after cutting it to size.  Rough sanding was done with a dremel tool but final sanding by hand using 200, 400, and 1000 grit aluminum oxide sandpaper.  the final polish was with honing oil and emory paper. I'm pretty proud of it as this was only my second attempt at making at assembling a knife.

(As I didn't forge the blade or make the brass guard, I feel it would be presumptuous to say I made a knife.  But I can say it is a one of kind!)

I call it my  "Gully Cat" Appalachian Hunter

Someday Gully Cat Cutlery will be more than a dream company and someday, this knife is going to leave the shelf and take a trip to the great outdoors.  It deserves a walk in the swamp!
