Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I was recently the winner of a knife in a contest carried out by Tobias Gibson.  The box with the knife in it came today.  The contest was to win a Colt knife.  When announcing the winner Tobias mentioned three knives that he would put in the box when he shipped it.  Well, A Box Full Of Knives is the proper place to post this discussion because the box was full of knives.  When I opened it, there wasn't one knife, there wasn't three knives.  There were six!

The contest was for this Colt fixed blade.  I haven't decided yet if I will put it in my collection or make it a user.  At this point I think I am leaning toward a user.  The thing that is pushing me that way is the pommel.  It is a hex nut.  If they had done the pommel a little nicer I think I would have put it in my collection.  The handle is stag and fits my hand pretty good.  It is about 9 1/4 inches overall.

The second knife was this Frost Cutlery Bone Collector BC 812.  It is 6 inches overall.  It seems to be a fairly well made knife.  When open there is no wobble or movement in the blade.  It has very good snap on closing.  I like the bone scales.  It is an inexpensive knife but I like it.  I am a hunter so the Bone Collector ties in with me.  I think it will go in my collection.

The third knife is this Cannnon.  It is referred to as a Sailor Pocket Knife on their website.  It was apparently part of a three knife set with a part number of CAN028.  It too is inexpensive but seems to be a fairly well made knife.  The scales are brown wood.  The blade is solid when open with no movement or wobble.  When closing it has extremely strong snap.  I like this one too.  I think it will go in my collection.

The fourth knife was this Columbia multi tool.  I don't know yet what I will do with it.  I don't think I will put it in my collection.  It seems to be a decent knife but when I look at it, it just doesn't call out to me.  I may put it in my bug out bag.

The fourth knife was this Imperial Ireland fish knife.  I collect fish knives and did not have an Imperial  from Ireland.  It will go in my collection because it is an example that I did not have.  It is kind of rough but I will clean it as best I can and keep it in my collection until I can obtain  a better example.  It was sluggish on opening and closing but some Coon P on the hinges helped that and returned some snap to it.

And then there is the Pass Along!  Definitely will NOT go in the collection!  Will have to find some sucker lucky recipient to pass it along too!

All in all, I would have to say I am well satisfied with what I got.  Thank you Tobias.

First, Congrats Charles.  That is quite a wonderful boc of knives you got there.  I do beleive the Columbia would be good in the bug out or even the glovebox.  The Imperial is great and  a nice addition to the fishing knives!

The pass along is hysterical!  Leave it to Tobias to name it and mark it the pass along :)

Glad you liked it, Charles.   I too was a bit annoyed by the hex nut.  Why put a goofy hex nut on the end of an other wise nice looking knife.  I was thinking of going to the hard ware store a looking for some other type of ornate capping nut instead.

If you're a hunter, perhaps you can cut down a brass shell casing that will snugly fit over the goofy hex nut!  (Or find a nut that will properly fit a shell casing  and  also thread that tang bolt!)  Yep.  There is no doubt that nut annoyed me!

Quite a haul, Charles.  Congratulations!
