I'm quite envious of you guys and your hunting trips. Must be awesome to do stuff like that on a regular basis.
Closest I've come to that is skeet shooting and shooting a .22 at the range last year LOL.
The cord thing. Yeah. I wouldn't use the cordwrapped handles as emergency cord. I usually only do them on request OR....if someone wants something very cheap. It takes me hardly any time to cordwrap something and the cord isn't expensive either. So I generally do them as a free handle covering. The covering I do with cord is very simple too, kind of like on this dirty working knife:
You'll also notice that this isn't paracord but flat cotton cord which is a lot more comfortable in my opinion.
Thanks, Tobias. Got married in '72 and it must have been a crossover year for Wusthof. The 12" cook's/chef's knife had wood handles and so did the the 6" parer/sandwich knife. Soon after that we got 3 slicers and a 3" parer, all of which were handled in "plastic" It didn't take long for the wood handles to lose their varnish.
Howard about non-wood handled butchering knives. There are companies that sell kitchen knives with phenolic handles for use in butchering. I'm not sure if they are used in slaughter houses or by butchers, however.
Wood is very traditional but it is supposedly prone to bacteria and is not supposed to run through the dishwasher. Various types of non porous plastics are used in its place, not because the offer better gripping but because they are easier to clean (and possibly cleaner) Victorinox uses "Fibrox" a glass reinforced plastic. The material has a high melting point and offers better insulation that wood plus it is impervious to most liquids.
A lot get killed on the road, it makes me sad to see a wasted Deer.
I rather use a bullet....lol
Hahahaha. Tobias that seems like a lot of road kill. The only statistic I could find for Pennsylvania in a quick search reported that in 2012 there were 3,362 car-deer accidents reported, but the article indicated that many road kills go unreported.
And the meeting is expensive for the driver. Average auto repair cost over the reported 3,362 road kills was a tad over $2K/per road kill.
Ken you're hunting them wrong! Get yourself a car with really sturdy bumpers and move to Illinois. No limit on hunting deers with automobiles. Over a 11,000 a year art taken with motor vehicles. The State of Illinois give you advice on where to hunt for them and outlines the criteria in which the deer is all yours. See the link http://web.extension.illinois.edu/wildlife/health_deer.cfm
Charles, you guys must have an awful lot of deer down there to be able to kill that many. I wish we could kill 2 Bucks a year instead of 1.
Howard, in Alabama we have a 3 1/2 month long deer season. For most of Alabama the limit is two a day, one of which can be a buck. There is a season limit of three bucks. For most of north Alabama this season they changed the limit to a buck and a doe a day. In most of AL after you killed three bucks, you could still kill two does a day. But in my area after I kill three bucks, I can kill only one doe a day.
