It could be Ken. I would say it is either a small bear cub or a large cat.
Stephen, my recommendation would be a pair of 7x35. That is a good all purpose size. I have a pair of 10x50. They are larger but I use mine deer hunting where I am just sitting in a blind. The size doesn't bother me there and I can check out a buck's rack at a distance.
Charles, there are black bear about 50 mi east of here - and there has been a sighting of a small black bear in this area lately, I wonder if that was the same one.
I squirrel hunt with dogs. Last year, I had a lot of difficulties finding the little things hiding in the tree tops. For this season, I want to get a set of binoculars. Is there a minimum magnification that I should look for?
From the shape of it, I would say a small black bear cub is a possibility. Ken, are there any bears in your area?
I don't know Ken, if I had to make a guess, I would have to say a cat. It doesn't look like a coyote. It definitely is not a coon or possum. It seems to be solid black, whatever it is.
Cute little fellar, makes good gravy.
About 4pm the Nats swarmed and got me slapping, the Deer probably saw that and laughed. A bird tried 4x to fly in my blind, that would have been fun.
