Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hey guys, i had a question. im pretty tired of going online and ordering all my wood to make handles, i would like to find a place locally or not too far away where i can buy wood, or go out in the woods and collect my own. i live in northern virginia, so if anyone from here knows of any good places, that would be much appreciated, also. to collect wood from outdoors where would the best cut of it be? and also, whats the best way to dry the wood without getting any cracks on it. hopefully someone will see this and help me out. thanks guys

Hi Henry,

Is there a Woodcraft near you.

I've picked up some nice turning blanks, 2" x  2" from our local store to use as knife handles.  I also gotten scraps from a local custom furniture maker.  You might want to call around your area and find a woodworker who might have some useable scraps.  Sorry, I can't help out with the gathering from the outdoors and drying, etc.  Hopefully some one will chime in to help you with that.

Here's a Scandi I did several years ago with Maple, Cocobola, and Reindoor Antler...

Not near to you but these guys have lots of different materials as well as woods...Best way for preventing cracks etc is to have the wood stabilized.
