I personally would avoid the new Chinese made knives. I have too much love for the real ones, the ones made in NY.

Just a point of information, the car with the highest percentage of American made parts is............................the Toyota Camry!  My son builds Toyota engines in Huntsville, Alabama.

just like anything, depends on what factory and who is making it.i personally don't see a problem with the Asian made knives. I have played guitar for years now,you know the difference between an American Fender stratocaster and a Mexican fender stratocaster?...about 90 miles, the same Mexicans make both. Also a lot of companies outsource guitars(among many other products) have them shipped back to the States where some 21 year old kid gives it a once over, and then puts a sticker on it says made in USA.All the big name companies do it.I have a Martin guitar i know for fact is made in Nazareth,Pa.the only reason i know that is because i had it custom made, went to the factory and watched part of the process.Even they send guitars down to Mexico to be made.

another point to be made,do you own an "American "car?if so,go pop the hood and see how many parts are made out of the country. My brother & I were out driving our motorcycles he has a Harley & i had a Yamaha Virago. We pull up to a stop sign,he starts talking smack.I said David(that's his name)pop the cover of the battery,so he does, what do you think he saw stamped inside?Made in Tiawain. He was so mad he threw it in the road, went and had anything that could be chromed, chrome.meanwhile I'm laughing my butt off driving a sweet bike, and he's cursing up a storm spending thousands to make sure every piece said Made In the USA.

I collect USA made Schrades and wouldn't buy one made in China, but that is just my preference. I agree with Ken S. though. If it feels good in your hand, and is pleasing to the eye...buy it. I just joined iKC because I was tired of the elitism of some of the other sites. If you have a love for knives, that's good enough for me.

Doug, That is in all honesty the reason we exist.  I do not care what you collect, if you collect knives, and are happy with them, your in the right place

That is one of the reasons I like this site so much.  Nobody is looked down on or harassed because of what they do or don't collect.  We all just love knives!  Our motto here is collect what you like and like what you collect!

I really liked the old Schrades very much, in the early 80s I logged a lot of hours in the woods of southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia exploring and conducting a lot of my early studies and experiments with a 165OT Woodsman on my belt. I was disappointed when they moved production over seas, but I can't help but feel good about being the one to bring Schrade back to using 1095 again back in 2009 with the SCHF9. and I am glad Morgan saw the benefit of making knives out of 1095 again and I was able to get the SCHF42, 42D, and 55 done in 1095 as well. I do keep trying to nudge Morgan back to more domestic production, but that will take some doing I fear.

Brian, tell him I am another one who will not buy a foreign Schrade.  I also will not buy a foreign Buck.

Oh, he knows there are those who feel that way...he's just as of yet confused as to why, feels from his data in a global market that those people are in the minority, and doesn't yet see all of the benefits of more domestic production. At some point I will likely offer to forego the royalties on a design to help offset the higher costs if he will produce it in the US...
