Green Para 2 in the house!
Well, after a very long wait the much anticipated Green Spyderco CTS-204P Paramilitary 2 is FINALLY in my possession! And, I am happy to state that the wait was worth it. So, far after a very careful inspection, this knife appears to be the very best of my 4 Para 2's straight out of the box. The blade is perfectly centered. The G10 is a gorgeous shade of dark forest green and nice n' grippy like all of my Para 2's. The grind lines on this blade are spot-on perfect! The action is smooth as butter and the compression lock operates flawlessly and effortlessly. No issues with sticking at all. I have had great luck with all of my Para 2's in that regard.
After reading reports of compression lock issues I am relieved to say that I have never experienced any problems with any of mine. I can also state that the Compression Lock is, without a doubt, my favorite locking mechanism, with the Michael Walker Liner Lock running a very close second.
As with all of my Para 2's, the very first adjustment I make to suit my preferences is to switch the pocket clip for tip up carry. They always come tip down. Once that is done I put some pants on the boy in the form of a lanyard which is adorned with beads.
Without any further ado here is my new Green Paramilitary 2...
And here are a couple with my other Para 2's...
These are all such great knives. I have carried the Digicam Black Blade Para 2 in my pocket every single day for nearly 2 years now. I will occasionally carry the Brown and the Orange, but rarely. The Digicam DLC is my daily workhorse and has performed its tasks with ease each and every time I have called upon it. I know that many of us also collect and carry traditional folders. I do as well. But these Spyderco Paramilitary 2's are unsurpassed for one handed ease of operation, both opening and closing, and these super steels are hard to beat for sharpness and edge retention. I carry traditional folders, but I rely upon the Para 2 for most of the chores that I perform each day.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Congratulation Ron I'm glad you got your knife. Enjoy it.
If you read my post back on June 16th then you will know that I had my heart broken trying to get my hands on a Dark Green Paramilitary 2 with CTS-204P steel that was a Knifeworks dealer exclusive.
Well, the Knife God's smiled upon me this morning and my broken heart has now been mended. I received an email from a sweet young lady who works at Knifeworks who informed me that there were now a few available and that those of us who had been on the stand-by list for over a year and a half would get first crack at one. Without giving it a second thought I shot her a call and made my purchase.
So, yippee skippy, I will be getting a new Green Para 2 after all. But, I still have to wait until Aug. 8th for it to ship. But that's okay! I have already been waiting for over a year and half. What's another week!
Yay! I am sooooo Happy!
I'll post pics as soon as I get it. This will make 4 Para 2's for me. I already have the Digicam Black S30V, the Orange CTS-XHP, and the Brown S35VN. I can't wait to try the CTS-204P!
Good to have you back, Wes! And, yep! I have heard nothing but good things about the Gayle Bradley and its M4 steel. The fit and finish on the few that I have handled has always been top notch. Like most, I am duly impressed with the Spyderco knives that are manufactured in Taiwan. Their quality, in many cases, equals or surpasses the knives that are made in Golden, CO.
The issue with the liner lock on the GB has been a concern to me. As has been the bulkiness and weight @ 5.5oz - The GB is an absolute tank! I'm sure that I will one day own one. But I'm doubtful that it will ever bump a Para 2 @ 3.75oz from my pocket as my primary EDC? But who knows, I've been wrong before!
Good to have you back and posting, Wes. Enjoy those new knives and keep us updated on how you like 'em.
Cheers, mate!
Hi, Spyderco friends. I haven't been online much since April, it's nice to be back. Since then I've acquired several knives, but two of my favorite new acquisitions are the Des Horn folder and the Gayle Bradley (the big one--C134??). I love both knives. The Des Horn is a thing of beauty---a real gentleman's knife! The Gayle Bradley is a beast and has become one of my favorite EDC blades. My main reason for obtaining it was that I did not have a knife with a CPM-M4 blade in my collection. This M4 steel is amazing. I stropped it with green compound right out of the box and it is scary sharp and holds an edge better than any steel I've used to date (beats the crap out of S3V; S30V; S35VN; SK-5; Elmax; N360 et al). I've sliced up beau coup cardboard moving boxes and haven't had to resharpen yet. The carbon fiber scales are really beautiful on such a work-horse of a knife. Now I'm going to have to get the G/B Air. I just love this M4 steel. My only complaint about this knife is there is no cutout for the liner-lock (intentionally) and it is hard on the thumb to close; however, it opens super fast and I don't expect to have a need to close it at light speed---so this is a very minor negative. I rotate a lot of knives in and out of my EDC rotation, but this one may stay on the strong side permanently and I'll only rotate the left side in the future??
That Calypso looks good to me
Thanks Ron and sorry about that para I feel your pain.
The steel on that Caly is VG10
Nice, Patrik! What steel does that brown Caly have? Is it S35VN like my brown Para 2? The G10 looks about the same.
I had my heart broken on Thursday morning when KnifeWorks put some extra Green Para 2's up for grabs. I had been on their waiting list for over a year and had been notified a couple of days earlier that they would go online at 8 am CDT (CST).
I grabbed one immediately and went through the checkout only to have their server crash. That happened to me 2 more times! It was very frustrating. A lot of people who had waited like myself got shutout because KW's server got slammed. Oh well!
Congrats on all of your new Spydies!
Thanks for comments. Indeed the Endura and Delica are on the top of my like list I have several versions and still adding more to the collection.
The Endura is one of the most versatile knives from spyderco it can be a utility knife or a self defense implement. I would like to see that they bring back the G10 version once they made a sprint run since than the version is very popular and goes for premium prices. If you consider today's prices and equipment that should not be a problem to offer those best selling models like the delica and endura in G10 version.
Anyway if you like and don't have a Endura 4 I do recommend the Wave version or the black oxide version for extreme corrosion and wear resistance.
