Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I'm always on the lookout for a good deal, and eBay has my number.

One of my saved sellers ran this, last week...

Swiss Army Knife Assortment, Outdoor Camo Theme, POOR to FAIR...

Now Bob doesn't go into any detail in his descriptions, but for $12.00, I figured I'd risk it.  Couldn't tell from the pictures about the condition of the MiniChamp, other than it didn't have scales, but there were 2 sets of "useable" scales on the SD's.

Fast forward to this past Saturday and my package arrived.  Checking the MiniChamp, I found that someone had attempted to sharpen the main knife blade as well as the scissors on some sort of grinding device.  The results weren't pretty.

Checking the accompanying SD's found that the camo one was rusty and the mountain one was missing the scissors.

Well I figured that it was time to try my hand at a teardown.  I checked the web and got some pointers.

First at hand was to dissect the doner knives.  Ground off the bushings and removed the pins netted me with a good knife blade from the mountains and a pair of rusty scissors from the camo.  Dremel tool and oil cleaned up the scissors, just fine.

The information, on the web, said I'd need to take the entire MiniChamp apart to swap the tools.

Not wanting to take it ALL apart,  I figuredred I could get by by removing only one pin.  I did loose the old scissors when I pulled the pin and the spring sent them over the porch railing.

Reassembling proved to be more difficult, having to align the pivot holes and fighting the spring tension to insert the pin.  Hour later and a lot of bad words, I had finished the swap.

I decided to put the "Mountains" scales on.  They were already showing signs of wear to the image so I applied several coats of clear spray paint to preserve them for as long as possible.

So for my $12.00, I gained some practical experience on what it takes to work on these little knives.

I'm pleased with the results...

The Wenger had an issue with the spring.  Little adjustment and some oil fixed that and a bit on the sharpening stones netted me another user...

It ain't pretty, but it is what it is.

Right there with you JJ, I check ebay several times a day. Paypal was foolish enough to offer me credit so yes, ebay is the bane of my existence too, (and I owe Paypal my shirt each month for all those pretty knives I've found).

Now you should be pleased with the results and for 12.00 that was a good days worth of work and knowledge.  It seems simple enough to say but I also know you had at least 12.00 worth of patience in that little guy also LOL

Anyone ever need any springs for a 58mm Victorinox, give me a holler.
