Orange Victorinox Hunter XT (111mm)

This arrived this morning...

I had been wanting one of these ever since Victorinox first introduced them a little more than a year ago, in 2011. I finally found one on Ebay at a really great price ($35) and free shipping. I couldn't resist!

As you can see, it's Orange! Which is a plus, should you ever drop it in the field. Another big plus, for me at least, are the dual density scales. They are the exact same scales that you'll find on the 2008 Soldier knife. Except, of course, the color is different.

This is a bare bones, no nonsense, knife. Featuring both plain-edged and serrated edged, opposing, knife blades that utilize liner locking mechanisms at either end. The plain edged blade incorporates the counter-intuitive, opposite direction, release that is also found on the Soldier knife. Whereas the Emergency/Gutting serrated blade has the conventional liner locking release. (Those of you who are familiar with the '08 Soldier knife will know exactly what I'm talking about). There is also a saw blade and a Philips screwdriver, which is the only back layer tool.

The Hunter XT also comes with a very nice nylon belt pouch that bears the Victorinox emblem. As with all Victorinox products, this knife is absolute perfection! Not a scratch or a blemish anywhere to be found. All blades open and close smoothly. Razor sharp out of the clamshell packaging!

I'm sure this knife will see service throughout the remainder of my lifetime and well beyond. It's a great tool and I highly recommend it if you are a Hunter or just an outdoor enthusiast!

Pretty nice knife there, Ron.

I thought about getting it but already have the Rescue Tool and the first generation Hunter. Still that locking gutting blade is major selling point! Okay! I admit it. I have Hunter XT envy!

I want Dual Density Scales. I don't have any SAKs in Orange. Mommy, Ron is teasing me!

Oops. Sorry. Seriously, that is one awesome knife, Ron. It's going on my wishlist!

Also everyone calls the gutting blade an emergency blade. Does Vic say that in its description? Because the emergency blade on the Rescue Tool has a different looking tip and different profile. Serration pattern also looks different to me.(see below)

Toby, you are absolutely correct about the actual Victorinox Emergency Tool. In the strictest sense of that Tool's description, then no, the Gut Hook on the Hunter is not THE emergency tool. BUT, it will accomplish the same result by virtue of its serrations. Ergo, it is often called an emergency tool. And, it the case of the Hunter XT, I described it that way because it can easily double as such an implement. But you, my friend, are absolutely correct!

It's being watched! Thankfully, I'm tapped right now so i can avoid the impulse buy.

One more probably won't kill me!

I too grabbed one of these at that price point. Too much to pass up. I love the color but really would have liked the opener layer with this knife. Still its is a sweet pickup!

I hear ya! I had wanted one and just couldn't pass it up at that price. And, Wayne, I echo your sentiments about wishing it had the opener layer. But, hey! I'm also looking for one with a hair dryer and a color television, too! Oh well, you don't always get what you want...in the words of Mick Jagger. But, you usually get what you need. Sometimes *grin* Good to see you, again.

I really like these larger SAKs. Picked up these 2 Saturday. O.H. Master RT & O.H. Forester.

About the Master RT -- is that a metal file/saw? I love the gray/black scales

It is a Metal file(Coarse/medium).

Welcome to the Club, Brad! I just got done joshing you a little over at the Dog Buddha Temple. These 111mm SAK's are truly remarkable tools. I especially like the feel of the dual density scales on the new '08 Soldier knife and this Hunter XT. I see that the two you recently purchased also have the dual density scales. They feel great in your hand, don't they! Notice that the orange Hunter XT has a plain edged master blade as well as the serrated gutting/rescue blade.
