Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I use a Maxpedition Beefy for my survival kit and I am trying to come up with the best items to put in it.  I want a good full tang fixed blade to put in the spine area of the kit.  It is about 6'' long by about 2.5" wide.  I would like to stay below $50 if possible.  I would like some kind of handle scales if possible as apposed to something like the Buck Pak lite, (which otherwise looks like a good possibility except that it's about 5/8" too long.) because I want it to be comfortable for long term use.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just found this, does anyone have any experience with it?  Looks like what I'm looking for, and I found it for under $40.  Boker Plus Tom Krein PSK Outdoor Knife 3" Satin Blade, G10 Handles

I know that AG Russell sells them and He don't sell no junk.

Boker makes good knives - also on the Buck PakLite - everyone I know who has one wraps the handle area with paracord to make a grippier handle and to have some emergency paracord with you, so don't discount it yet.  Look at the ESEE 3 or ESEE 4.  Also look at the Morakniv Bushcraft or Morakniv Companion Heavy Duty, and don't let the fact that they are less than $20.00 fool you, they are great survival knives.  Good luck!

Data, I would definitely wrap it if I got it, but I think it's too long.  As for ESEE, I have a 6, and it is awesome, but a 3 or 4 would be out of the budget I'm shooting for, and I think even the 3 is too long, and too wide.  I have a Mora Companion, and it is a great knife.  That's the first one I tried to put in the kit, but it is too long as well.  Thanks for the suggestions though.

Jim, I have that knife and box, I call it my "Mini Kit" and have a lighter, compass, whistle, light, and tool with pliers and flat and Philips screw drivers in it.  It is a great knife and tin, but not the size I'm looking for.  Thanks though.

The Gerber Guardian Back-Up at Blade HQ is $46.50 + shipping.  This is an excellent knife which will fit nicely in your kit spine area.  Check it out.

If you are looking for a cheap little knife, Atlanta Cutlery has a little Patch Knife with hard wood scales and a leather sheath. It's 4 5/8 overall and is stainless and has brass pins. The price is only $9.95 plus shipping.

I am currently working on a Baby Dingo knife from Nagatac (Fusion Gear).
A great little knife that you modify to suit your needs as it is a blank, meaning you choose your own scales and shape the blade to your needs.

Fits in an alto is tin or similar styled case.
