Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I liked Terry Waldele idea of doing the what if senarios like he came up with in the "Stranded" discussion. Alright here is a what if question.

You get picked for a survival reality show and you have no idea where they are going to drop you at in the world. They are telling you they will provide you with the correct clothing and basic gear for the climate so you will not have to worry about packing for this. The only things you are allowed to bring are two knives one fixed blade and one folding.

What fixed blade and what folding knife are you going to bring to use in a unknown environment?(Just wanting to see what the top fixed and folding blades are that people would use in a survival situation.)

Then if you had your choice of any combination fixed or folding and heck saws or axes to bring with no limit to the amount what would they be. You will most likey be on the move during the show so keep in mind you will be carrying what you bring possibly on some lengthy hikes.

Feel free to post pictures of your knives if you have the ones you want to bring.

If limited to only 1 fixed blade and 1 folder (and more than likely the network execs would say a multi-tool is not a folder it's a multi-tool, so not allowed. However, I would argue for 3 blades, light/medium/heavy duty, but might be vetoed due to the show already being sold as is) .... For the fixed blade, I would go with my Cold Steel SRK (AUS8A.) On it is attached a wire saw, magnesium block w/ ferrocerium rod, 2 1/2' leather tie-down, and a strip of 400 grit water sandpaper for blade touch-ups. This puppy has been to hell and back, and has proven itself time and again.

For the folder (and again I would question the rationale for a folder, as opposed to 3 fixed blades of varying lengths,) I would go with the Kershaw Nerve. It's got a beater steel (8Cr13MoV) which can be easily touched up and holds its edge. Jimping on the forward and rear spine, a well as the finger groove. Contours on the blade spine to allow for finger and thumb placement. Thumb plate with side jimping, so it is more easy to deploy under stress. I would choose the partially serrated version, as it would aid in cordage making and small draw planning tasks.

Now then, if they were to limit me to only one knife. I would choose the Cold Steel Outdoorsman hands down. As this blade can do it all... and with style

fixed blade esee 6

folding leatherman or victorinox hunter

This is a hard choice when you have many to choose from and only 2 to choose. I would take the Shrade SCHF9 and the Victorinox Champion. With the Shrade, you could process wood and still perform camp cutting chores along with have some tactical options.

some good choices!

Thanks Steve. Like they say, the best knife is the one you have with you. LOL
