William, that Governor is a great home defense weapon, my son in law has one.

Welcome to the group, William.  Glad to have you here.

I don't have an AR, I do have an SKS.  My shotgun is a Remington 1100.  I have eight Rugers, two S&W.  My deer rifle is a NEF Handi Rifle in .30-06.  It is definitely not expensive but does get the job done.  I have fired it 14 times at deer and coyotes and have put 12 deer and 2 coyotes on the ground.  I have a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9x40 scope on it.

I have a 1967 vintage Marlin 39A Golden Mountie .22.  But here is a link to my most prized gun.

Thanks William.  I wish it could talk and tell me its history between 1891 and 1930 when my father acquired it.  Who knows what stories it could tell!

As far as the Governor goes, I have had no experience with it.  I like the idea of the versatility that you get with it.  I do have two S&W's and like them both.  They are both fine guns.  A Model 637 Airweight .38 snub and a Model 317 Airlite .22 revolver.

I have been a NRA member for years. My father was a life time member. I can still remember the old type NRA magazines, from when I was a boy.

  • Ken Spielvogel

I am a life member of NRA but won't be attending the show. I would like to someday though.

Yes, it sounds like a great time.

I'm not a life member of NRA but am paid up until 2019.  I also have contributed to the NRA ILA a few times.

I won't be attending this NRA show but I did attend the one in Louisville a few years ago.  President Bush was one of the speakers.

To get into the room where he was going to speak, you had to go through metal detectors.  We were told if we had a pocket knife to turn it in at a booth that was set up and we could get it back when we came out.  It you tried to go into the room with it, the Secret Service would confiscate it and you would not get it back.

I'll bet IKC has a lot of NRA members. I would join for life but I have two Grand Daughters in college right now. If you know what I mean.

  • Ken Spielvogel

If something is not done, we will lose that right as well as many other freedoms also.

  • Ken Spielvogel

No, freedom is not for sale, but an unjust government can rip it away from us and nobody seems to be doing anything about it. Talk is cheap.

Looks like they have a nice line up of guns. Can't wait to go myself. Thanks for bringing us along Jan.

  • Tobias Gibson

Okay.  How many Marines and Infantry types from the Army see this sign advertising  firearms as "guns"  keep hearing that little ditty "This is my Weapon, this is My Gun.  This is for Fighting and this is for Fun!" go through their head.

  • Bob Robinson

Tobias, that ditty brings back memories. I think that about every time I hear folks talk about keeping "guns" off the street.

  • Ken Spielvogel

Tobias, I remember well. The Marine drill instructors use to sometimes add motions to that saying. BUT you better not call your rifle , your gun......

  • Jan Carter

LOL!!!  I seem to remember hearing that one

so lets see some more weapons.  Went to Cherokee knife supply and in the same building is her partner Doc....I love his sign

Remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away!

  • Tobias Gibson

And many of my friends who are Chicago Police Officers also live by this slogan.  The rank and file cops want the good guys to be informed, well trained, firearms owners.  They'd rather come and tag a bad guy in the house than console a victim who was raped and robbed.

New York, NY - -(Ammoland.com)- Outdoor Life, The Source for Hunting and Fishing Adventuretoday announced the expansion of its Open Country program.

Open Country, launched in 2012 takes aim at a critical issue for sportsmen: access to public lands for hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting.

New this year, Outdoor Life will award monetary grants to six grassroots projects making a difference on the issue. For more information, please visit outdoorlife.com/opencountry.

“The only way to move the needle on access is to be proactive,” said Andrew McKean, editor-in-chief of Outdoor Life. “We’ve been so inspired by sportsmen across the country who are working hard to solve this issue in their own backyard. But for every group that’s creating access on the ground, there are two more that need funds and inspiration to bring their project to fruition. By providing some seed funds and calling additional attention to their projects we hope to work together to create even more access.”

Outdoor Life plans to highlight six grassroots groups or individuals who are actively working on public land access and/or public land habitat improvement projects. Each of the six projects will be covered this fall in the publication and online with links to fundraising pages, offering Outdoor Life readers the opportunity to assist.

Thanks to the support of Outdoor Life’s Open Country partner, The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, each of the six designated projects will receive a $500 mini-grant.

“Outdoorsmen want to see positive change in terms of public access to hunting and fishing land,” said McKean. “One of the things we’ve heard over and over from these grassroots organizations is that they need help getting the word out about their projects and they need help with small but essential things—lunch for volunteers or fenceposts to help mark boundaries of public refuges. We think the new additions to our program help address those issues because sportsmen have a powerful voice, especially when we work together.”

Applications for Outdoor Life’s Open Country Grant Awards program are available at www.outdoorlife.com/opencountry. Mini-grant applications must be received by June 16, 2014.

I am happy to report that Cabelas is going to be opening a new store in Huntsville, AL just 25 miles from Athens.  When Cabelas and Bass Pro are opened that will make Cabelas, Bass Pro, and Gander Mountain all within 30 miles!  Yahoo!

WOW Charles, what more could a person ask for in stores

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

When they open close to each other, I'm sure the competition keeps prices low.

  • Tobias Gibson

What more could one ask  for.  Well LUNKERS comes to mind!

(lousy selection of knives but a fisherman's paradise!)

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

That's a new one on me, I've never heard of Lunkers. I guess I live too far from large cities.

  • Tobias Gibson

Edwardsburg has a population of 1,259 people.  I guess for some that is a big town.  The nearest big city is South Bend Indiana at 721,000 or so folks.  Niles, Michigan is also nearby (11,600).

Really, the place is smack dab in an area where city folks from Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, etc. come to fish.

The place iis more or less a Cabelas or Bass Pro-shop but is really for Fishermen.  It is full of aquariums with various game fish and has a stream running through the floor with fish. And then there is the 8,000 pond bass crashing through the wall.  What else could you ask for (other than a better selection of knives)?

"What makes us different than most stores is that we have many hard to find guns. We not only sell used guns, we also buy and trade them for store credit as well. "

Peter, if you ever get the chance, you need to move out of that state!

  • peter force

@charles.. i know .. its something i think on every day!!!

  • peter force

i honestly live where you can see the "bad guys" carrying guns like ys nothing... they could careless. their lives,jail.. it doesnt mean anything. now as sad to me as that is. my LIFE DOES MEAN SOMETHING TO ME AND MY KIDS AND THER AROUND ME...  in NJ the LEGAL ANS MOTTO FOR GUNS comes from a song lyric ..which goes like this and is the TRUTH!!. "i would rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6!" .. @CHARLES..  EVEN IF YOU USE IT TO ONLY SAVE YOUR OWN LIFE!!! --in NJ..if the gun is nt yours, regstered,,,anything like that... you will SERVE TIME JUST FOR HAVING THE GUM..nevermind why you were using it. also ..in some cases some folks  have gotten an extra year PER BULLET!!!! -- @ charles -my fieend served 3 months FLAT! for a BLOW DART GUN he made in WORKSHP IN SCHOOL ..it had his gradutaing xclass year on it and school colors and all... years went by.. he was 24 and it was in his trunk of his car since basically 12th grade!,, well bad idea.. COPS CHARGED HIM WITH POSSESSION OF DEADLY WEAPON. the judge even asked to see the blowgun... asked my frend why he made it... he said because he was told he ws allowed to by the teacher.}{remember he made this when he was a minor!!!}- LIKE I SAID IN THE END 3 MONTHS flat!..HE WAS NEVER ,EVER THE SAME!... ..i wish someone could show me the justice that was served..-amd f your wonderig what this has to d with 2nd amend rights.. its that NJ wants to squeeze out even the thought of owning a POCKET KNIFE{the law for pocket knives is"THE LAW IS UP THE POLICE OFFICER"---  anyway i just  wanted to point out that over a school project- hand spun wood blow gun .. THAT  WAS ACTAULLY A WORK OF ART!!.... was deemed a WEAPON!!!.. and they jailed my friend.. to thi day.. and due to that charge,,he still cannot register a gun legally!  - this is how this all ties into the 2nd amend..-

    BUY MORE GUNS!!!!!!!!!!

  • Alexander Noot

Thanks for the invite Pete. I currently don't have much of an "arsenal" but I appreciate guns and enjoy reading more about them.

  • peter force

hey just glad to see the INVITES WORKING,,, THANX BRO!!!-- number 101!!!

  • Tobias Gibson

Peter, don't feel bad.   you need to register BB guns in Chicago as well.  And I think if the air rifle shoots a projectile over 450 FPS you need a FOID car.  It's a money making racket.

Over here you can buy any air rifle without a license over the counter. Anything with gunpowder in them however is restricted to heavy regulation.
