So Sad to hear this story Steve, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Ron, get a gun and learn it. Learn the safety system and learn it well. Driving has proven to be more dangerous than hunting, and we all drive. Sometimes things are not in our control, but knowledge prevents so much harm.
I read this on a Friends Blog today. He and I had a long talk about this earlier today. I AGREE...WE CAN NOT LET THIS HAPPEN IT IS ABOUT OUR RIGHTS
I've got a plea to make to everyone to speak up now and contact your representatives and share your feelings about the changes in the gun laws being proposed. Let them know how you feel. Understanding that a lot of you probably feel that you don't have a dog in this fight, stop and think about a few things. This is about way more than just guns.
I mentioned a few days ago the attempt that was made to classify most of the assisted opening knives to fall under the utterly stupid switchblade law. Fortunately, some of the industry leaders stepped up and helped stop that from happening. If you were one of the individuals that sent a letter or email to your congressman in regard to the proposal, my hat goes off to you. While I'm not a knife collector, I saw the danger that proposal presented for all of us and made it point to bring it up and contacted my representatives. We've got another battle shaping up that requires everyone's attention and action.
How would you react if you were told that legislation was being proposed to 1) Limit the blade length of the knives you could own, 2) You would be forced to pay a license fee to own any knives with a blade over a certain length. 3) The government was going to make you register all of the knives you own with assisted opening devices. 4) You had to prove competency to purchase said knife. 5) If you decided to sell the knife, you would be required to confirm the competency of the person buying it from you. Totally preposterous, right? Never happen. But if it did, would you sit back and let it happen?
The reason I pose that scenario is I have every confidence that at some point in the future that's a possibility, albeit a remote one I hope. In North Dakota, there's one of the highest rates of per capita gun ownership in the country with one of the lowest firearm related crime rates. When you read the crime report and a weapon is used in a fight, you know what the weapon of choice typically is???? A knife. Now, it's just a matter of time before somewhere in the country, some ambitious politician that doesn't particularly care for knives figures this one out and proposes restrictions on blade length, opening devices, etc, etc..... you get it. We've seen it proposed once already fairly recently.
The gun law proposals currently being considered don't have a thing to do with making our schools safer or protecting you on your next visit to the mall or theater. If they did, I might be willing to support them. This is an anti-gun driven agenda that is using the recent horrific events in an elementary school as the centerpiece. So far none of the proposals under consideration would have done a single thing to have prevented that catastrophe from occurring. Sadly, it's driven by a desire on the part of some politicians to give the illusion that they're trying to do something to address the problem, while veiling the effort to simply make guns less available to all of us.
Take a few minutes to read this piece that was published in Pravda: Pravda Opinion It should be a sobering reminder of how important our Constitution is, how vigorously we should protect it and why. So even if you're not a shooter or gun enthusiast, take 5 minutes to drop a note to your representative and tell them if they feel we need more laws, take the time to craft a sensible law that will actually address the issue rather than simply punishing the innocent. Next time around, it could be you're pocket knife they're after....again. Believe it or not, we're all in this together.
If you are not a member of National Rifle Association - you should be! They are working hard to help protect our Second Amendment rights, and they need all the help they can get! Also, check out www.oathkeepers.org for more information on what some politicians are trying to do! Warren - "Lone Wolf".
LGS was out of .380 ammo today. As late as 10 days ago, I could have bought 1000 rounds for north of $300.00.
Bet I could find some at the next gun show...at near $30.00 a box.
I was at a Gun and Knife Show this past week end and there was only one table that had and was selling 22 bullets. He had 2 boxes left, of 100 each. They were $30.00 a box. He had sold 98 boxes before I got there. I was shocked at the price. I am still shocked. What's the price for a 100 box of quality 22's in ya'll area?
Good news! The senate failed to pass the latest bill trying to infringe on our Second Amendment rights. Five Democrats joined 41 Republicans to prevent getting the 60 votes required to advance the bill.
Unfortunately thats not an untypical price for .22 ammo now (if you can find it at all.)
Ron, my cousin has had one for years and it has performed great. I can't shoot a pump shotgun because my arms are a bit disabled. What I have seen of my cousin's gun, you can't beat it for a pump action.
Dont know if any of you can use this info but TSA Knives has this on their site
PowerBond Bullet shipping charges reduced!
Not very often prices go down, but for you reloaders I have good news. I'm dropping the shipping cost from $11.95 down to $7.95 Priority Mail. I can get up to 3 boxes of 500 into a single Priority box for that $7.95 fee which should help out a bit.
A Department of Justice study has shown that gun crime is down drastically from what it was 20 years ago. Murders by gun are down 39% and overall gun crime is down 70%.
What is different today from 20 years ago? Most states have now passed some form of concealed carry. Could it possibly be that has made it more dangerous to be a criminal and that is the reason for the reduced crime rate?
In every state that passed concealed carry laws, the crime rate went down after passage.
That's what I'm talking about. My grand daughter had a tee shirt that said, "Shoot Like a Girl.....If You Can". She's a great shot, although never got into shooting contest very much. I kinda, wish she had, now.
I haven't been around for a while. Va seems to need me more and more. Here's my spare time build. This rifle is a Remington 7600 standard - 270 win caliber - pump action - with Bushnell 3200 elite firefly scope ( crosshairs light up for a last shot of the day ) Now my Tactical Remington with Advanced Tactical Modifications - Still the same fine game hunter - Thought I would share some pics -And here's what I carry these days Colt Defender , later Guy
They are all going, boy friends and all, even if they already have passed the course. It takes two nights of three hours each and Saturday, for two hours outside, shooting guns and stuff like that. It's all good. Gun safety, no other way to go.
When I am in Walmart I always go to the ammo counter to see if they have any ammo on the shelves. Most of the time the shelves have been bare since the ammo shortage began. A couple of times there was a box or two of pistol ammo. However last night there was ammo available. The shelves weren't full but there some of several calibers available. So hopefully this ammo shortage is about over.
The shelves weren't full by any means but there were a few boxes each of several calibers including 9 mm, .380, .38 special, .45 auto, .44 mag, .40 S & W, and .357 Sig.
Well today was opening day of dove season. So it was time to break out the Remington 1100 12 gauge. The hunting was good, the finding not so good. (I guess that is why they call it hunting instead of finding!) The shooting (what little I got to do) was good, the hitting not so good. (I do pretty good with a rifle or pistol but never have been a very good wing shot.)
Clint, our archery season opens Oct. 15 and runs til Jan. 31 so our bow seasons are the same length. Our gun season opens mid Nov. and runs til Jan. 31. When is your gun season?
The limit in my area of Alabama is a buck and a doe a day. The limit in most of Alabama is two a day, one of which can be a buck. (What is the difference? In my area after you kill the season limit of three bucks, your limit goes down to a doe a day. In the rest of Alabama, after you kill the season limit of three bucks, your limit is still two does a day.)
BTW Clint, I lived in Topeka for six years. I helped build the Jeffrey Energy Center, that power plant that you can see on the far northern horizon as you are traveling I-70 west of Topeka.
Also if you get a good photo of your hunt or its results, post it here and you could win a knife.
Our firearms season is Dec. 4 through Dec 15th. One buck. We have huge bucks here with a 250 pound one not too uncommon. There is a two day doe hunt in mid October for one doe. Then in Jan for the first 14 days there is another doe hunt for one doe. There are two more doe seasons the first part of next year but these are from year to year. I have 31/2 months so I am in no hurry.
There are now nine entries in the knife give away contest. Don't be left out. Get your cameras out or go through those old photographs and post a picture to win a knife. You can read the rules and post an entry at this link.
We now have nine entries in the Arsenal contest. And a growing list of prizes. I ordered a Rough Rider knife during Knives Live Friday night that will be one of the prizes. I will post pics of it when it gets here. A little over two weeks left in the contest. Be sure and enter!
