Regarding Marble's Safety Axes.

These things have been around for ages, yet I am unable to find much of any definitive information about them.

From what I have found there are a few models, and each model had their own dates of manufacture.  To add to the mess, some were 're-introduced'.  Of course, some of the features have changed now.

I am trying to compile information about this while family, and note when certain features and/or markings were added/removed from various features.  One example is the stamping on the 'arm' was added in 1911.  Of course that is the old stamping (containing the patent year 1889).  The newer stuff has different text.  Then there was marking on the handles.

Most axes seem to have a stamping on the 'cheek' of the head.  Some do not.  The model type is stamped into the underside of the back.  When was the cheek stamping started?

Of course these things do not have serial numbers or anything.  So I am trying to gather/collect all the information I can and hopefully I can get a better picture of when these were made and when features were added or removed.

These are rather small axes, but hold an interesting spot in history.  Trying to document that.  To do that thoroughly, I need your help.

Thanks!

Kevin

"The photos in the previous post are of an old German pruning type knife I just aquired. It surely is interesting, and quite old."
