Fantastic knife! Thank you, also, for the fascinating history lesson about this John Ek knife.

This is the real deal, Model #1 made by John EK himself c. 1939-1945 In Hamden, Conn. It has a  12 1/2 carbon steel blade, Hot poured lead rivets with maple wood grips. Mr. EK had special permission from the war department to get special supplies and steel to make his knives which had an exemplary reputation and he only sold to soldiers and sailors during War time. Each knife came with a piece of sandpaper so the G.I. could customize the grip to his liking. Mr. Ek believed that a hand guard just slowed you down if you had to draw your knife quickly so many of his knives didn't have a guard  or had a small one. President Roosevelt had an EK knife at his desk in the White House. Gen. Patton carried one as did Lt. Clark Gable when he flew missions. They went to War with a lot of our fathers. Mr. Ek used poured lead rivets because a G.I. could tap them with a hammer or piece of steel and tighten them up while in the field. These are very neat and tuff knives with a great fighting history.
