The pattern #31 Jack is made with one or two blades of varying type -- this is NOT a Whaler. The #99 Whaler is slightly larger, has a bolster on the butt end and a bail. It also ONLY ever has a single sheepfoot blade.

Thanks James! Your comment had me taking another look at this knife which I just sort of bought on the fly while more seriously hunting several other knives on the "bay". It' sort of interesting: I don't think I really had picked up on the fact that this is a Case "Jack" knife, which might have had a second blade AND that neither of the two need necessarily be a sheepfoot. I was sort of operating under the impression that this was a "Whaler" -- which is actually pattern 99, has a bail, 2nd bolster and is 1/2" or so larger.
