Yeah, the Bakelite butt use was discontinued before WWII wars end because it had a habit of chipping and breaking under very extreme conditions... They replaced it with an aluminum butt cap...
I also have the Marbles Identification book and they have a brief write up in there about it...

I have the exact same knife. It belonged to my Stepfather, and I have been trying to figure out when it was made.

Bakelite Butt indicates WWII Knife as the metal for the butt ends was used for the war effort.
Yet, someone told me this was a 1930's knife...
