Prussian Bayonet - made in 1888
Wilhelm I or II. There were three emperors of Prussia in 1888. Wilhelm I, Friedrich III, and Wilhelm II. Friedrich only ruled for 99 days before succumbing to larynx cancer.
This bayonet was assembled by Erfurt.
The 'serial number' is actually a regimental stamp (120.R.R.143) that indicates the following:
120 - 120 regiment
R.R. - Recruitment office of the Infantry
There was only 1 company so the company number is omitted.
143 - 143 weapon
The muzzle ring has been ground off, probably during the 1908/1909 sanctioned rework that many of these had the muzzle rings ground off so as to be used on the GEW98 and the K98K.

Yea...I didn't think of that...I'm sorry. I saw that we were both posting stuff within minutes of each other. I have seen too on some of my postings where the photos show as being posted before any script is completed. I didn't even consider that.
However....it was kinda fun to poke the Lion! :-). Really good info on this one...makes one proud to be a fellow bay collector! Thanks for posting it...
lol.
It posts the photos before I have the chance to add a description or information in the photo.
So my slowness in typing things in was my undoing on this. You commented before I could finish (within a half hour, right)
Oh....so much better! Thank you!
Nice job on the cleaning!
OK bayonet boy...how about the make, model, other useful data? Lot's of great markings on this piece - but what are they? :-D
