This one for my son, has buffalo horn scales with a 3/8" (9mm) highlight plug of whitetail deer antler through it.

Thinking again, seeing a message from D ale today, that drill lathe idea could just as well have come from him. Maybe somebody will step up and claim ownership of the idea - whoever it was, it helped me out.
I used an idea from somebody here to make the deer antler plug - probably Jeremy or Carl - I really don't remember. I cut about 3 inches off one of the tines of a shed antler, took it to my little belt sander and started sanding it as round as I could get it. When it was close to round I put it in the chuck of my little drill press and used it as a simple lathe with a piece of sand paper to finish the rounding and sizing until it fit right in the 3/8 hole I had drilled through the buffalo horn.
