The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
A few weeks ago a friend called me and said he wants to meet me. When he came at home, he said to see the knives I have. I showed him all my knives and among them was the previous hunting knife. From all the knives, my friend liked this one and said, that he wants me to make him a knife. I asked him what will he use the knife for, because I know, that he is not a hunter and he said he wants to have a "good" knife, to cut thin appetizers with and to put him in the living room to watch it. His requests were thin grinded blade, light handle, sheath with dangler and my signatures. Everything else was my choice.
The steel is 1.2379 (D2), hardened up to about 60 HRc. The guard is hammered brass, the handle is alder with red fiber dividers and mosaic pin. The sheath is made of calf blanc, oiled with Vaseline to stay soft. When I was sewing the sheath I made a mistake - I forgot that the guy is left-handed and made a right-handed sheath, but this was not a problem.
