Contrary to popular belief, not all USA-made Benchmade designs lean towards the pricier side of things. The high-value knife shown in this photo is my Benchmade Presidio Ultra. This blade features the Axis Lock system (always a plus!), an FRN handle with nicely checkered scales, steel liners, and a perfectly shaped 440C steel blade. Like all Axis series Benchmades, this guy is FAST deploying. At it's core, the Ultra design is just a more economical version of the main Presidio...and BM saved cost by going with the FRN handle scales and the 440C blade. Both are perfectly good materials for general use. The main Presidio features aircraft aluminum handle scales and a 154CM blade steel...so, "yes" there is a reason why the main one costs more. That said, the Ultra is a GREAT, GREAT, GREAT high-value knife. If you are in the market for a new companion and need to keep costs down below $65, the Ultra is a wonderful choice.
