The tested barlow is green bone! Have you ever seen kids dip eggs in easter egg coloring and notice how a dozen eggs dipped in the same cup of dye have variations in the intensity of color? That is why you see green bone with variation in the brown to green to light coloring so to speak.

Paul,

may I suggest that you buy Steve Pfeiffer's book collecting case knives. He gives a good explanation of bone color used by Case on page 70. I quote "All of the early bone variations from dark bone, tan bone, green bone and red bone that have been identified by collectors were evidently random variations that were due either to changes in the bone itself over the years or changes to dyes used." With time and looking at lots of knives you will begin to grasp the meaning of his observation.
