Cattaraugus Cutlery Company Little Valley NY. 32879 marked on small blade which was reshaped by a previous user. Whittler with shield. Bone scales. 3.765 inches closed. Actual marking CATTARAJCUS

Cattaraugus Whittler whose small blade was changed in shape by a previous owner. That was common for that time period. Why???
The spelling of the name of the company was "Cattarajcus" that was done intentionally on some knives.

I found a reference for that spelling in one of my books but could not find it again. It is still the same old Cattaraugus company... not an error like the well known bi-plane flying upside down on a U. S. Post Office stamp.

believe it or not Paul, modifications are still done on a fairly regular basis.  We have a whole group here that manages to get at least one a week posted or discussed.

The thing is they buy the knife because it is the quality they need it to be and it feels good in hand, however, it likely does not have that one perfect blade of a specific duty.  Like magic a stone or a small grinder gives them exactly what they were looking for

I have never heard of that spelling?
