Marlin Spike...cool..........

That's an interesting knife. Boone sells knives like that for scrimshaw. Boone is big into scrimshaw. To do it on a bone handled knife is a tough project. Are you going to scrim it?

Indeed .. sweet Rigger !

.

Quite often the bail also acts as a device to "unlock" the marlin spike. The marlin spike blade is purposely designed to have an extremely strong spring to the point of being almost impossible to close.

.

In your pic the bail has a built in cam action .. note the offset pivot pin on the bail.

.

When the bail is pivoted & pressed into the body of the frame it lifts the hefty spring for the marlin spike .. facilitating easier closing of the spike.

.

This is a positive thing ! I've seen less expensive rigging knives devoid of this function. Your pictured Rigging Knife is true to its original form.

.

Again ,

!! . Sweet Rigger . !!
