It's an interesting old knife for sure , and one of the many that I remain sadly ignorant about .

It's certainly a sailboat sailors knife.  It's case fits the knife completely, and the blade is tapered from the top to the edge like a straight razor.  It's literally sharp as a razor but it doesn't any "sharpening" marks. My estimation is that it would take about two cuts to go through a 3/4" sheet line (sheets are the toughest lines on the boat, excluding anchor lines).  It's old but in excellent shape.
