The Empire Knife Company, Winsted Ct 1856 to 1930 two blades Ebony Scales

Empire is an old Connecticut(USA) knife company named in 1856. They discontinued making knives in 1930. So many companies went out of business or changed their product lines during the great depression. New England Knives by Phillip R. Pankiewicz is a wonderful resource for those liking knives from New England. The knife looks like Ebony but color changes with time, use, and care.

Paul I agree that it does look like Ebony, the grain appears to be tight and this is a wood that was used a great deal in that era. Empire is an interesting company to study

These old knives were meant to be used ..yet.. were of a quality that lasted.
This particular one shows little blade wear.

.

While I've a few old EMPIRE .. none that have the shield stamped.

.

!!! .. SWEET .. !!!
