Here’s a new artifact walrus ivory knife in from Dan Graves. The ivory was found on St. Lawrence Island and dates back around 2000 years. Dan forge welded the blade from 1084 and 15n20. Really like how the pattern came out on this one.

Thanks Kevin.  Here's a pic I posted on IG showing all of the Dan Graves knives in my collection.  All are artifact walrus ivory except for the fluted walrus ivory gambler's bowie in the lower right and the wart hog tusk in the upper right.

Wow.

I am with you on these artifact ivory pieces..  The old ivory is...  well, there is just something special about it.  The age, the history, the timelessness of it.

Beautiful knife.

Thanks J.J.  I really like Dan's work.  Used to have a number of pieces he did in stag .... but sold or gifted them and decided to just stick with his artifact walrus ivory pieces.  I like the historic significance to them.  This particular piece was assumed to be made by Siberian Eskimos and used as some type of scraper. In the first pic, you will see a notch near the bottom of the handle.  It was originally a hole through the tusk, probably to some type of lanyard. The outer part broke off, leaving just the inner notch.  I have others that were used as scrapers and some that were used for fire making.

Ok, Dennis, I'm not necessarily a Damascus fan, but that blade is nice.  What I really like is the ivory.  It looks amazing and really gives character to the knife.

Simply beautiful.
