Vest Pocket Skinner

When I bought the tiny Hen & Rooster firm in 1975, I had already used a Hen & Rooster sleeveboard pen knife pattern to make the CM-4, Baby Barlow. I continued to use existing tooling for the handles of the CM-5, CM-6 and Bicentennial Knives while designing new blades for them.

In 1979, Hen & Rooster and A. G. Russell produced the CM-7, the .45 Long Colt which was the first knife designed entirely by me for Hen & Rooster to make. This Vest Pocket Skinner commemorates the American West and the Colt Single Action. The 2-1/2" drop point blade of German stainless at about 60 Rc. is hollow ground to a paper thin edge and mirror polished. The handles are Jacaranda. In 1979, this was the finest pocket hunter ever made.

I have a beautiful stag handled CM-6 coming in the mail. It should be here tomorrow! I hope the above excerpt from mister A.G. explains why that's not a 9mm Luger on that knife? But I can definitely appreciate your thinking on that one. Cheers, mate!

This is one of the most amazing knives I have ever owned. I may own another before the sun sets on this day, too! Mr. Russell used to tell people to look inside one of "his" Hen & Roosters (75~80) in order to appreciate the craftsmanship and care that went into making one. The highly polished nickel silver liners look like mirrors! The blade on this knife is like no other blade I have ever seen. It is quite literally a razor blade. Checkout the double nail nicks! And jacaranda wood keeps this baby warm at night! These old Bertram H&R's are real beauties to behold!
