Some of the "seconds" I used to get were like that too. Most of the time I could NEVER find the problem! Sometimes it would be a small scratch....which I polished out. 

I'll say it for the zilliionth time......I wish Camillus (and Schrade) were bought and stayed in business.

After a closer inspection, I have determined that Craig may be correct in his assessment. The tang stamp has been ground away. Although I don't understand why it was classified a second, but for $11 shipped I don't care.

That looks like the ones sold as "seconds" way back when. Some companies used to grind off the tang stamps. SMKW used to sell a lot of them.

Hmm? That's interesting. I wonder if this tang stamp was intentionally erased or if that's the result of normal use and wear?
