The name came from a post I saw on  BF.Levines book also lists as such.I asked the same question and was told (at 4"s or a little more)it is too large to be qualified as a pen knife.

see the swedge on the main blade here...this is the swedge i have seen on all he SCHRADE BUDDING knives i have handled.... also where does the term FARMER JACK come from ...im curious as well since a jack has all its blades on the one end of the knife.in the schrade catalogs im looking at i dont see farmer jack anywhere?..just curious...also this isnt a budding blade unless you can tell it is and it worn ....im wondering if schrade would switch out the budding blade for a pen blade or something different since  someone may ony wantthe knife for pruning??
