Smiling-Knife

Yes it does seem to be some sort of bakelite or similar.  It has never received any special treatment until recently.  As I was growing up, I just remember it laying in a dresser draw with other stuff.  Then after my parents passed on, my sister had it for several years.  A couple of years age she traded it to me for an old trunk that I had.  I had two of the trunks which were from the 1870's (the patent date on the latches is 1872) and were full of family papers and artifacts dating back to the 1850's.  I kept the contents of the trunk because I am into genealogy.

Nice shoe knife Charles. Is the handle Bakelite or similar? it seems to have withstood the test of time quite well.

Max I don't know where you find these knives but if you see a great big fellow following you around don't worry it's just me trying to find out.

"Thanks, I picked it up from someone who's had it forever. The MOP is really sweet and my pics just don't do it justice."

Oh cool.  I don't remember mine having a a serial number.....maybe it did.

Here is a knife that isn't a World's Fair knife, but my grandmother got it at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis.  The knife is a Germania Cutley Works made in Germany.
