Hi Jan,

This has a Presto stamp circa 1950. I also have one with a liner lock.  You're right D ale it works just like the little ones.

I believe .. the very tip of the blade slips below a catch when closed. Pulling the ball moves the "catch" & releases the blade.

'least .. that was the original design concept.
