You should be glad that you got to spend the time you did with Fred. You will always have the knife, rasps and memories to hold on to. I wonder if the handle is ram's horn. Maybe someday, you will cross paths again with Fred.

Hey Jeremy

It's 7" long the blade is 3&1/2" HRC 62 It started life as a large file salvaged carbon steel farrier rasp

the handle is unknown to me bone.Fred is a very cool guy it sucks that I didn't meet sooner cause he is

moving back to South Africa at the end of the month I'm grateful I got to meet him before he moves I asked a lot of questions and got a lot of information  http://scanlenknives.bigcartel.com/product/railway-steel-and-walnut

Along with the knife he also gave me 5 salvaged carbon steel farrier rasps to work with

all in all had a great time Thurs. night

What a great gift. Can you tell us a little about this one Kevin? How long is it? What are the handle and blade materials? Looks like a unique knife.
