The problem with sticky pine is just that - it's sticky! Very hard on the belts (4 to grind one handle) and difficult to finish. I tried buffing in the hope it might bring up a shine to the resin. What happened is that all the surface resing heated up and came out the wood, which I literally scraped off. The handle was then easier to sand and finish (default method nr 1!). Although there are a lot of prettier and easier to work woods available, the real benefit of a sticky pine handle is in the rarity of the wood.
