Hello Jeff, thank you for your interest. The knife is at the jewelers at this time being appraised I'll get the exact measurements when I get it back. With that being said I think you're pretty close on the the measurements from what I remember.

I would love to know measurements of the knife.. being said that it is a type of gentlemen knife..I would figure maybe 2.5 to 3 in closed? apologize if you already posted info..but I did not see it listed.

Mr. McCain, Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.... It has been so incredibly frustrating talking to so many supposed "experts" in my local just to find out they really have little to no knowledge in the respective field they deal in,.... It is quite refreshing to find somebody that can not only go into such in-depth detail about a unique piece of cutlery such as mine, but is wheeling to share his knowledge and expertise on a public forum such as this one.... Mike-A very nice gentleman's pen knife or sometimes called a fob knife. L&K Germany is probably not the knife manufacturer, but instead a jewelry firm.These type of knives were often sold skeletonized with no handle material for a jeweler to dress up as elaborately as they wished.The lowest tier of these would be fairly plain nickel silver, aluminum, pewter and gun metal finish. The next grade up would be with these same metals with stamping or engraving,sometimes with color or enamel inlays. The top tier would be ones such as yours, with gold or silver handle material,and inlaid with jewels or semi-precious stones.I suspect that your knife might have been made by Duane Cutlery Co.of Germany, who were in business circa 1910-1920.I found a reference to a 4 bladed gentleman's knife with 10K gold and  supposed ruby, diamond, and sapphire stones with both the Duane and L&K names on it. Unfortunately, there was no picture and no selling price.BTW, Duane Cutlery Co. is reputed to be one of the many brands of Adolph Kastor.The fact that their name is not on the knife is irrevelent,as often this was by request of the jeweler.

The value in this type of knife is just like in a piece of jewelry, the gold content, and in the gemstones set in it. I would use a magnifying glass or a loupe on the bail of the knife.I bet you will find the info on the gold content there in very small lettering. Huge difference between 10K gold plated and 10K gold filled. Gold filled being 100% more gold.I personally would ask a jeweler to see if they can determine what the other two stones are, and approx. weights for all 3. With this info, you will have a better idea of potential value. These types of knives often sell better on jewelry auction sites rather than on knife auction sites.

I did find one that was similar to it On Ruby Lane.com but it was a 3 blade knife in rough condition and that one only had one stone, a diamond in the center. I would probably graded as good condition mine is near mint condition and as 4 blades. It does gives me a rough rough idea of value to the item. I was hoping to Find somebody who was at expert or somewhat of an expert in the knife to give me some information on it that I didn't know

Yeah thank you I appreciate your info. I've done some extensive research on it myself and have been unsuccessful. The closest I came was a mention of the L K knife company in Germany in the NKCA directory but even they did not have much information on it.

Sorry Mike I didnt see this one. I am still looking, I found another one of these on EBay that was not nearly as nice as yours but I still havent found anything. You might ask our research official John McCain. He will have info. for you I am sure much faster than I can.
