Thank you everyone, all great advice and I value all your opinions! You all speak from experiance and I do take it to heart! This is a first for me. There is a nick in the top of blade that happened and it's staying so I'll remember how it happened.

I think the tapering will tell the tale when I do it and I'm sure it will tell me then if it needs to be shortened.

I too would wait on the trimming .. easy to take wood off .. not so easy to add back on.

Max, I wouldn't shorten the scales too much, but "Taper" it down some also. It looks real nice.

Yet another knife being finished as I have yet to finish projects going back 2 years.

D2 steel and we bought a couple of lengths from to different suppliers. The Bocoteand some steel came from Jantz.

Ron, we sent the blades out to a place in Texas to have heat treated. I only work on this when I get together with a couple other guys every Wednesday! I think I'm going to shorten up the scales where they go out over the blade by about a quarter to a half of an inch.

Wowsa, Max! That is taking shape quite nicely. I love that Mexican Bocote! And, that slab you have is one of the nicest examples of that wood that I have ever seen! That will be a super sweet knife once it's completed. What steel did you use for your blade, if you don't mind me asking? Did you do the heat treatment yourself? Inquiring minds need to know! (And please forgive me if you have already posted the answers to my questions elsewhere on iKC -- I plead ignorance as my only defense)
