"It seems that "Race Bros." was a retailer who branded their name on German made cutlery as has been mentioned. Enclosed is a catalog illustration from 1894 which shows a similar swell center model as yours only with long bolsters and no shield. I have never seen a reference for "Race Bros." from the 1900's and suspect they were only around near the tail end of the 1800's. Several other catalog pages show some nice Race models from fancy gentleman's folders to pearl handled whittlers."

Blade's Guide list Race Bros as a import brand made in Germany circa 1880s. Goin's Encyclopedia suggests a time frame circa 1875-1900. A nice older knife for sure.
