Thanks Wayne & JJ.  It makes sense now.  One blade has "stainless steel Japan" and another has "Maro" stamped on it.  I was afraid to show this for a long time, thinking it would reveal some ignorance of personal hygiene.

What JJ said.  This is a special knife for Pipe Smokers. The bottom of the handle with the round metal end is a pipe tamper, the long pointy tools are cleaners and the spoon shaped end is a bowl cleaner. Looks like they threw in a nail file to round it out. This is a rather nice example with it's nice wood handle. Any makers marks?
