   Thank you for the comments.  The picture I took is off in color a bit-there is a bit of brown.  My guess is that the wood is black walnut or cocoabola. Colors may have darkened from oil having been applied as a finish.  They both are closed pore woods but cocoabola has dark stripes. There number of woods in the world are in the tens of thousands so your guess are as good as anyones..
