Kevin,

Sorry for taking so long to answer your question -- we've had a lot going on here, beyond Halloween...

Unfortunately I have not had a chance to use any of my Petrified Fish knives (I have several, & I believe they all have K110 or D2).  At the price, I'd say it's worth the risk -- especially since Petrified Fish also has a line of higher end knives, which makes it more likely that they know what they're doing as far as heat treats are concerned (at least that's how I see it).

However, one of the knives I have from PF is the Victor, which I bought because I really liked the size of the blade, & the fact that it's a clip point (I've been more into clip points in recent years).  The reason I don't have much experience with the Victor is the handle -- it's weirdly blocky.  I think it's something that could be gotten used to, but I just haven't been that dedicated...  Your results, as usual, may vary -- especially at the price.  It's still a worthwhile knife -- I just haven't fallen in love with it, & I actually thought I would.  So the problem with the knife is more likely to be my expectations of the knife, & not the knife itself.

DLKG, I have one question...

The K110 is basically a brand name D2 steel.  Nice high quality but still D2.  I know D2 is very dependent upon a very controlled heat treat.  Have you been able to use this much to determine if the heat treat is a good one?

I am serious looking at a PF Victor which also uses the K110.  Can be good with a good heat treat...  Looking for your insight

Thanks, Kevin!  Petrified Fish has proven to be, in my experience at least, an especially solid knife manufacturer, at least in the budget category.  This one threw me off because I bought it second-hand, & the dimensions for the full-sized version were provided, so I thought I was getting the original 949, not the 949x -- the "x" here indicating "mini" in the Petrified Fish repertoire.  It's still a nice little knife -- but special emphasis on the "little".  :[

I have liked most of the offerings I have seen from Petrified Fish, but I have yet to get any.

Good looking group of them!
