That's an interesting knife. Boone sells knives like that for scrimshaw. Boone is big into scrimshaw. To do it on a bone handled knife is a tough project. Are you going to scrim it?

Quite often the bail also acts as a device to "unlock" the marlin spike. The marlin spike blade is purposely designed to have an extremely strong spring to the point of being almost impossible to close.

In your pic the bail has a built in cam action .. note the offset pivot pin on the bail.

When the bail is pivoted & pressed into the body of the frame it lifts the hefty spring for the marlin spike .. facilitating easier closing of the spike.

This is a positive thing ! I've seen less expensive rigging knives devoid of this function. Your pictured Rigging Knife is true to its original form.
