The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Never been really find of dyed (red, blue, green, etc) bone knife scales. Did some reading on the possibility of re-dying knife scales, while on the knife, and decided to give it a try.
Picked up a bottle of Rit liquid dye, dark brown, while I was at hobby lobby getting some leather.
Didn't want to possibly ruin one of the bosses pans so I warmed up some water in the microwave and mixed some dye and hot water in a plastic bowl.
15 minutes later...I'm pleased with the results.
Not totally brown, but brown with red undertones.
Others have reported that this method produces a dye that's deep and should last as long as an original dye would. Not being simmered, I'll see how this holds up. If it doesn't, there's always black.

I can't even begin to say how happy I am with the way it came out, Ellis.
There's been a lot of knives that I've passed on because of the color.
I tested on a couple knives that I had modified into carvers, one green and one blue. The green one did really well but the blue still has a bluish tint to it. Might invest into a bottle of black, for that one.
J.J. Now isn't that wicked.?? You the man!!!!!! Good looking knife!!!!!!!
