Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

This was from a branch .. not from the main trunk of the tree. The very center was pithy .. scratched it with my fingernail. The lighter outer wood sawed like pine. The orange heartwood is HARD.

The saw blade kept following the grain .. could not / would not saw a straight line. I ended up slitting 6 " chunks lengthwise as best I could & then milling the required flat surface.

Those should make some real pretty handles for some lucky knife!

The one you did, holding the paper clips, looks great.

I just came in from the garage. I was also working with some Osage. I am making a couple of bowls for a friend. He gave me the wood and asked if I could make him something from it. I will show some pics when they are all done (probably by the end of the week). I told another fellow I would send him a slab for knife scales. It is a very unique wood.

Thanks, Steve. Native to right here in MO. Lopped a branch off back in January when I had the kids out for a run. It's been drying in the garage since.

I would imagine you have your fair share of it down in the bootheel. When you're putting up wood this fall .. grab a chunk & set it in the shed for awhile .. it is pretty wood !!!
