The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
This less common pattern is used for dogs...must be for hair care...don't know. Both blades have the same line shapes on both sides. Also marked "Oil the Joints", and "Made in England".

Thank you all (Dale, Jan,Ron, John) for the nice comments on this (and other knives recently posted),
This Dog Scraper along with 10 other antique knives was found at an antique store in Northern Maine. The knife may have been made by George Wostenholm as it is marked "Oil the Joints". We are the only folks from Maine without a dog but we appreciate them as other's family members. I was wondering why some of the knife companies such as Great Eastern, Queen, or Case do not reproduce this pattern or that of a five inch antique Hunter by Cattaragus/recently posted that is like a Cheetah (guard swings)...A dog specialty company would like to sell dog scrapers.
There may be one more dog scraper around here somewhere.
Jan unfortunately I never saved the old Knife Worlds.
What a great old knife, it's amazing how I have managed without one all these years. Mind you I don't have a dog so that must be how I have got away without having one.
I with D ale on this one. Never in my life have I ever encountered such a unique knife.
How did you come across this cool old knife, Paul? For its age it looks to be in great shape!
I'm thinking that blade would make for short work for an itch...Not on a dog, on me -- Woof!
Very unique blade design .. one I was unaware of.
.
There exist 2 adult humans & 4 canine children in my household.
I can attest to it's usefulness ..especially .. late spring / early summer w/ long haired (shedding) dogs.
.
Where on earth did you ever find this ??
David Anthony did an article on dog grooming knives in Knife World not to very long ago. It was interesting to read
