Ron, I would like to try and make a few lanyards, I have about 6 with holes in them. I have been admiring yours. Look at my discussion about Lanyards, I would be interested to hear what you have to say about them. Thanks

Ken, I do make "some" lanyards. But I did NOT make the ones you see on the Paramilitary 2's. (Look for what I wrote under the picture of the brown one, below.)

And, Ricky. All of the knives that you see in the drawer below were made in Golden, Colorado. Spyderco uses some of the best steel available for this line of knives. Most of the knives in this picture thread are Crucible's CPM S30V.

The exceptions are:

CPM S35VN in the Earth Brown Paramilitary 2

CTS XHP in the Orange Paramilitary 2

CTS 204P in the Green Paramilitary 2.

These last two being from Carpenter Steel.

All of these steels that Spyderco uses are commonly referred to as Super Steels. They are "powdered (sintered) steel" technologies. Since I'm not a metallurgist I can't explain the exact process to you. But will simply state that these blades take a great edge provided you use the proper sharpening stones or equipment. And they will hold that edge for a long time under normal use. Spyderco is renown for their heat treating process. I have had very good luck with all of my Spyderco knives and rarely need to use my ceramic stones (Spyderco Sharpmaker) on them. Relying instead upon just an occasional stropping to bring an edge back up.

I guess I've drank the Kool-Aid from the Fountain of Spyderco because I'm a believer. I like their knives!

I hope that answers your question?

Ron, do you make your own lanyards?? Those are really neat knives to carry.

Nice !  I went and looked at these at SMKW . I currently do not have any spyderco knives. Do they sharpen well and hold an edge ?

Ricky,

Since you asked -- Here is a drawer that contains the Spyderco Military or Paramilitary 2 knives that are currently in my EDC rotation. There is also one black Spyderco Native on the far right. If it's in this drawer it gets carried...

Yes, Ricky! I do use them. I carry one of these Para 2's in my right front pants pocket daily. Mainly the digicam with the black blade or the brown one that I just added to show another lanyard. I love the fact that I can deploy or close the knife blade using just one hand. The Paramilitary 2's all have compression locks, which you probably already know. They make great EDC knives! I never leave home without one!

Nice knives Ron, do you use these knives ?

Awesome knife Ron

Thanks, Ken!

Here's another Para 2 with a lanyard that I just got a couple of nights ago at my local brick n' mortar knife store...

Almost every knife that I own that has a hole in it has a lanyard attached to it. The ones you see that are attached to my Para 2's were not made by me -- They were purchased. That would be the case with the one pictured above, also. I do add the beads to them, though. Kind of gives them a personal touch, ya know.

Cheers! And thanks again for your generous comment!
