Sometimes...just sometimes... blade choices are limited by our environment of the moment. As temporarily amusing as it might be to whip out a Cold Steel Rajah II and loosen the bowels a few dozen sheeple...sometimes us blade-toterz just gotta go with something "tame".

IF for some very twisted reason...I'm in a suit (whoever created ties ought to be resurrected and then drawn-and-quartered about 18 times in a row), I'll go with a "gentleman's folder" (like a Kershaw Leek, for example). How about when I'm doing the business-casual thing? Well...I tend to pack a SOG Flash I...or a Spyderco Dragonfly...or a Cold Steel Medium Voyager (which I recommend VERY HIGHLY).

As a steel addict, I'm always looking for a new sidekick for those "business-casual" occasions...and the fine folks at Spyderco just supplied another cool option; the UK Pen Knife.

So what's cool about a blade designed for those backasswards European countries that think they need to regulate and legislate everything...to the point of strangling any real freedom a common person could possibly want? Yeah...that was an opinion; if you can't handle it, go put an icepack on your head.

Oh...yeah...forget the rant and back to the blade. Well...this is a slip-joint folder...that is PERFECTLY-sized, includes a variety of upscale features. The nicely-textured G10 handle scales make this knife both light...and strong. Granted, "safety orange" isn't a very mild color...but I think of it as "fun" and "sheeple-friendly". Additionally, this little buddy comes with a flawless S30V steel blade; absolutely ideal for the most common of EDC tasks. This knife comes with Spyderco's steel "wire pocket clip"...which works extremely well; I'd say better than most designs. Made in Golden, C0lorado "Earth", the workmanship and machining on this knife is truly exceptional!

Yeah...the blade doesn't lock...and yeah, that's not as "safe" for the user. But hey, in Europe they don't care if the user gets hurt...only that he/she not be able to hurt someone else (isn't it funny how the nutcases use reverse-logic to justify their position?). Blast it...ranting yet again. Well, at least their obsessive lunacy motivated Spyderco to create yet another cool knife! Hey...Spyderco wants to sell knives in the UK...and it's not their fault that the people running that part of the world think that we all need to live in nicely pristine padded bubbles. Ranting yet again? As much as I dig this knife, you'd think that somebody spiked my soup with urine. Sorry 'bout that.

In any event...I come from the days when slip joint knives were what we used. They were the only blade we could put in our pocket. And ya know what? I'll be a freaking Sasquatch if they don't work just fine in today's world. Go figure!

I have the Urban Slipit with orange G10, wharncliffe blade and it also exhibits great fit and finish. I'm kind of on a wharncliffe kick lately and like them because i seem to be able to get the straight edge sharper with less effort than curved edges. And to be honest i like just about anything other than another knife with black G10 handle scales; the black is just getting tedious to my artistic eye. I mean what's wrong with a little color? Guys seem to be so phobic about what constiutes a "manly" color. i just don't get it. Been thinking about a pink mini griptilian or yellow just to mess with those people that keep their brains in these tiny little boxes. People really are sheep sometimes. OK, i'm done ranting too now.

Cheers. ---mick-->
